As World Monuments Fund (WMF) comes close to reaching its fundraising target of £10 million, with only £99,500 left to be raised, the Stowe House Preservation Trust (SHPT) launches an appeal for the public’s assistance in finding out what happened to the lost treasures of Stowe. It is over 150 years since Stowe House, the magnificent Grade I listed Neoclassical palace set in 400 acres of landscaped park in Buckinghamshire, was stripped of its contents.

Sunday to Thursday:
During term-time: guided tours only at 2pm and 3pm from Sunday to Thursday. The guided tour lasts approx. 45 minutes.
School holidays: open 1 to 5.30 pm (last admission 5pm) over Easter and throughout July and August.

Tickets for the House can be purchased either at the National Trust Visitor Centre or at the House on the day.

The tour takes place every day that the House is open to the public and covers different aspects of the history of the family and the House. There is no extra charge for the tours and no booking is required.

Entry to Stowe House is via the National Trust’s new visitor entrance, New Inn, on the south side of the estate.
By road: M40 from west London: leave at J10 take A43, then A422 to Buckingham, then follow NT Stowe Landscape Gardens sign; from Birmingham leave at J11 follow A422 as above.
M1 from London leave at J13, take A421 towards Buckingham, A422 to Brackley; from the north leave at J15a.

Rail: nearest stations are Milton Keynes (16 miles) and Bicester North (11 miles)
Bus: nearest buses are to Buckingham (3 miles)

Stowe House welcomes visitors with disabilities. Although the House is fully accessible it is advised you are accompanied by an able-bodied carer.
There is limited parking near the House in the Stowe School visitor car park on the north side of the estate. Those with further mobility restrictions may be dropped off directly in front of the North front steps (main entrance).
The State Rooms on the first floor (Piano Nobile) are accessible via a staircase within the House or a lift.
Wheelchairs are available upon request. There are public toilets available in the House including facilities for the disabled.

Visitors are requested to park in the National Trust car park at New Inn. The walk to the House is approx. 20 minutes. If you need to be closer to the House entrance for access reasons, there is limited parking in the Stowe School car park which is signposted as you drive in front of the House.
