This exhibition investigates one of the most remarkable artistic enterprises of the 17th century: David Teniers the Younger’s publication in 1660 of the magnificent Theatrum Pictorium or Theatre of Painting, the first illustrated and printed collection catalogue. |

The exhibition will be accompanied by a fully illustrated catalogue produced and distributed for the Courtauld Institute of Art by Paul Holberton Publishing. Essays by Margret Klinge and Giles Waterfield examine the origins and impact of the Theatrum and its conceptualisation of Leopold Wilhelm’s great collection. |
